General Tips for Traveling Abroad
Every trip is completely different, and what you choose to do will always come down to individual preferences, but these should be a given ALWAYS:
Always Always Always!!!
- Research your destination beforehand (some places need more or less time than you might expect)
- Make a generic packing list so you stop forgetting your toothpaste and adapter
- Check if your phone will charge you to use data, and if so, buy an e-sim in advance.
- Figure out how you are going to get around, i.e. just walking, Flixbus, trains?
- Price is important, but what are your non-negotiables for feeling safe? I personally need a curtain to sleep in a hostel
- If your charger is USB-C, not USB, buy a USB cable; some public transport and hostels only have USB ports.

- Rome2Rio – The best for figuring out routes and how far away things are
- Omio – Omio lets you see bus, train and flight options all at once
- Flixbus – flixbus has dominance in Europe for a reason, but is also linked to other companies, so even if they are not that prevalent in your region it can link you to other companies.
- Booking.com – their Genius Loyalty scheme is the main way that I have managed to make my recent trips so affordable, share your account with family and friends and soon you’ll be getting 15% off
- Hostelworld – such an extensive list of hostel options, and lets you chat with people beforehand if you are scared about meeting people once you arrive. Free cancellation options are also very common
- Skyscanner – shows you the vast majority of flight options and lets you exclude Stanstead crucially!!!! Make sure to turn on the price tracking option so you can get the best-priced flights.
